How to care for your teeth after braces

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for – your braces are coming off and you’re ready to showcase your new, gorgeous smile!

With the right routine and proper care techniques; you’ll keep that sparkling smile in ideal condition long after the braces come off.

A consistent oral hygiene routine is key

Small, impactful hygienic practices is important after your braces come off, including:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day
  • Floss every tooth or use a water pick
  • Keep your retainer clean and wash it every day
  • Use mouthwash every day

Care for your retainer

As mentioned above, wearing and caring for your retainer is crucial to keep your smile straight. Wash it every day and invest in a case to keep it away from dirt and germs.

To clean your retainer, mix lukewarm water with mild dish soap and use a soft toothbrush or dental brush to scrub away any plaque or debris. For debris stuck in grooves, use a cotton swap or Q-tip.

Be careful of what you eat

As soon as you get your braces off, you may notice increased teeth sensitivity. To protect your smile, it’s best to slowly re-introduce sticky and/or crunchy foods into your diet for the first few weeks.

Try to brush immediately after eating as well to ensure particles do not get stuck in between your teeth leading to increased irritation.
